Umax fits if what you want is a looks rating with scores for jawline, cheekbones, and masculinity.

If your goal is better skin, GoodSkin is the app built for it. The Umax app (listed in the stores as Umax - Become Hot) is a looksmaxxing tool: you take a selfie and it rates your face, with skin as one score alongside jawline, cheekbones, and masculinity. GoodSkin doesn’t rate your attractiveness at all. One selfie gives a Skin Score out of 100 and scores for 14 named skin traits, each with an explanation and recommendations, and the app tracks them month by month.
What is the Umax app?
Umax is made by Improvement Tech LLC, a company based in Pennsylvania, and first appeared on the App Store in November 2023. Its listing sums up the idea in three steps: download the app, take a selfie, get your analysis. The description says it helps users improve their facial attractiveness and calls itself “the looksmax AI tool.” It also says plainly that it doesn’t offer medical advice.
The App Store version history shows how the app grew in its first months: AI-generated images of “you as a 10/10” in February 2024, daily routines and progress pictures later that month, personal coaches in March, color analysis scanning in May, and group scanning in June 2024. That June release, version 1.4.3, is the latest listed when we checked.
Searching the App Store for “Umax” also turns up several unrelated face-rating apps with similar names. This page is about Umax - Become Hot by Improvement Tech.
What does a Umax rating measure?
According to the screenshots on its App Store listing, a Umax scan returns a ratings card with six numbers: Overall, Potential, Masculinity, Skin Quality, Jawline, and Cheekbones, each shown with a bar. The Overall score is also plotted on a bell curve that tells you what share of people you score above, and a Potential score sits next to it with an upward arrow. A “glow up routine” then lists daily tasks such as grooming your eyebrows, styling for your face shape, starting a skincare routine, and improving your hair, with a streak counter and progress pictures.
So in Umax, your skin is a single number on a card that is mostly about facial structure. That is the key difference from GoodSkin.
How GoodSkin analyzes your skin
GoodSkin is about your skin, and it breaks it down. From one selfie you get a Skin Score out of 100 and scores for Skin Age, Acne, Wrinkles, Dark Spots, Pores, Redness, Pigmentation, Glow, Hydration, Oiliness, Face Shape, Bloat, Elasticity, and Texture, plus your skin type and skin tone. Each trait gets a status (Excellent, Good, Fair, Average, or Needs Improvement), a short explanation, and practical recommendations.
That detail is what makes a score useful. A single Skin Quality number can tell you that something is off. Fourteen traits tell you whether it’s oiliness, texture, redness, or dark spots, which is the difference between knowing you need a better routine and knowing which product to change. See what a full report covers on the AI skin analysis page.
GoodSkin also gives every scan a scan confidence rating that flags blurry, dark, or badly lit photos, so you know when to retake a selfie instead of trusting a skewed score. Lighting moves results in any face scan app; we explain why in how accurate AI skin analysis really is.
Tracking progress
Both apps encourage a daily habit. Umax gives you a routine checklist with a streak and a place for progress pictures.
GoodSkin’s tracking is built around the skin scores themselves. Scans are grouped by month with your average score, best score, and “potential glow”, and you can compare before-and-after photos, keep a daily scan streak, read a daily skincare tip, and share a score card. Because every scan reads the same 14 traits, you can see exactly which part of your skin is changing.
For a fair comparison in any app, scan in the same light at the same time of day on a bare face, and judge a new product by your average over 4-8 weeks, not a single scan.
If you want a face rating
GoodSkin scores skin, not looks, and that’s deliberate. If you’re curious how your facial proportions measure up, try our free attractiveness test. It measures your proportions and symmetry against the classic ideals and gives a score out of 10, with no sign-up. It runs in your browser, and your photo never leaves your device. Our face shape detector works the same way if you want to know which haircuts and beard styles suit you.
Treat any face rating as one opinion. How attractive people find you depends on expression, grooming, style, and who’s looking, none of which a still photo captures well.
Privacy
GoodSkin works without an account. Photos are not stored on GoodSkin’s servers, and your scan history is saved on your phone.
Umax’s privacy policy, last updated October 16, 2023, says it collects selfies, may process biometric data with your consent, keeps face scans for a maximum of one year, and may share data with data analytics and data storage providers. Its App Store privacy label lists usage data as data that may be used to track you, and photos or videos as data collected but not linked to your identity. Its Google Play data safety section says data is encrypted in transit, no data is shared with third parties, and you can request deletion. Its terms say the service is for users 18 and older.
Pricing
GoodSkin is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. The full report, unlimited scans, and progress tracking come with GoodSkin Premium, an in-app subscription.
Umax is also free to download. Its App Store description says analysis results require a subscription and additional scans require an additional purchase. The US App Store lists weekly Premium plans from $3.99 to $9.99 and monthly Premium plans from $9.99 to $24.99, plus one-off purchases called “You as a 10/10” and “Supercharge”. Check the listing in your country for current prices.
Umax reviews: what the store listings show
When we checked on October 30, 2026, Umax had a 4.6 out of 5 rating from about 52,000 ratings on the US App Store, and 4.5 stars from about 401,000 reviews on Google Play, where it listed more than 10 million downloads. Store ratings reflect how people feel about the app overall, not how accurate its scores are. The Google Play listing was last updated on April 20, 2024.
Which should you choose: Umax or GoodSkin?
- Choose GoodSkin if you want clearer, healthier skin and a way to prove your routine is working: 14 skin traits with a plan for each, a photo quality check, and monthly tracking, with no account and photos kept off our servers.
- Choose Umax if a looks rating with scores for jawline, cheekbones, and masculinity is what you’re after.
- Want a quick face rating without a subscription? Use the free attractiveness test for your proportions, and GoodSkin for your skin.
Neither app is a medical test. For a mole that is new or changing, or a rash that won’t settle, see a dermatologist. For more skin apps side by side, see our comparison of the best skin analysis apps.
