If you want to understand your skin and track it over time, GoodSkin is the stronger choice. It scores 14 skin traits plus an overall Skin Score from one selfie, gives practical recommendations that are not tied to any brand, and tracks your results month by month. Olay Skin Advisor is a free, browser-based tool from Olay (a Procter & Gamble brand): you answer a short questionnaire, take a selfie, and get a Skin Age Estimate, scores for five visible concerns, and a morning and evening routine of Olay products.

In short: Olay Skin Advisor is a quick, free way to get an Olay routine. GoodSkin is for people who want a wider analysis, advice they can follow with any products, and a way to measure progress over weeks and months.

Is Olay Skin Advisor still available?

Yes. As of October 2026, Olay Skin Advisor is live at olay.com/pages/skin-advisor, and the tool itself runs at skinadvisor.olay.com. Olay calls it “the new Olay Skin Advisor,” and it has changed a lot from the older version many people remember.

The biggest addition is the Virtual Companion, announced in June 2026 with Haut.AI, an AI skin analysis company. According to Haut.AI’s announcement, the selfie step uses Haut.AI’s LIQA camera technology, which guides you on lighting and framing, and the Virtual Companion simulates how a recommended routine may change skin over 4 to 8 weeks.

How does Olay Skin Advisor work?

Olay says the whole process takes about two minutes, in four steps.

  1. Questionnaire. Seven short questions, starting with your top skin goals. You can pick up to three, such as fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, hydration, uneven tone, dark spots, dark circles or visible pores.
  2. Selfie. Olay recommends removing glasses, pulling back your hair, facing the light and, if you can, removing makeup.
  3. Skin analysis. You get percentage scores for lines, dark spots, texture, sagging and eye lines, where 100% represents a flawless appearance for that concern, plus a Skin Age Estimate.
  4. Routine and results. The tool gives each Olay product a match score based on your concerns and preferences (SPF, retinol, fragrance) and builds a routine, typically three morning and three evening products.

The Virtual Companion then shows a before-and-after simulation. Olay’s FAQ is clear that this is not your face: it maps your skin concerns onto an AI-generated model with similar skin, and the current version uses female models only, including for male users.

How the analysis compares: Olay Skin Advisor vs GoodSkin

Breadth. GoodSkin scores 14 traits: Skin Age, Acne, Wrinkles, Dark Spots, Pores, Redness, Pigmentation, Glow, Hydration, Oiliness, Face Shape, Bloat, Elasticity and Texture. It also shows your skin type and skin tone. Olay Skin Advisor scores five concerns, all linked to visible aging, which fits Olay’s anti-aging range. If you care about acne, oiliness, redness or hydration as well as lines, GoodSkin covers far more of what you are looking for.

How results are shown. GoodSkin gives an overall Skin Score out of 100, a score per trait, and a status from Excellent to Needs Improvement with a short explanation and practical recommendations. Olay uses a percentage for each concern. Both estimate skin age.

Photo quality. Both tools depend on a good selfie. Olay guides you through capture, and GoodSkin adds a scan confidence rating that flags blurry, dark or badly lit photos, so you know when a result is less reliable and should retake it. Our guide to AI skin analysis accuracy explains why lighting changes scores so much, and why trends matter more than any single reading.

Neither one is medical. Olay says Skin Advisor will not diagnose medical skin conditions, and GoodSkin is a cosmetic and educational tool that does not diagnose acne, rosacea, melasma or anything else.

Brand routine or brand-neutral advice?

This is the most important difference. Olay Skin Advisor exists to help you choose Olay products: the routine is complete, it explains key ingredients, and it respects preferences like fragrance or retinol. But every product it suggests comes from one brand’s range.

GoodSkin’s recommendations are practical tips for each trait instead of a shopping list, and they are not tied to any product catalog. You can follow them with products you already own or prefer, from any brand. If you want to understand the difference between fine lines and wrinkles before you buy anything, that neutral view helps.

Tracking over time

GoodSkin is built around tracking. With GoodSkin Premium you can scan as often as you like, your scan history is organized by month with your average score, best score and “potential glow,” and you can compare before-and-after photos, keep a daily scan streak and get a daily skincare tip. That makes it easier to judge whether a new serum is doing anything after 6 to 8 weeks, whichever brand it comes from.

Olay says you can save previous scans and track visible changes over time if you create a Club Olay account, Olay’s membership program.

Why people choose GoodSkin over Olay Skin Advisor

  • Wider coverage. 14 traits plus a Skin Score, including acne, redness, oiliness, hydration and glow, not only signs of aging.
  • Brand-neutral advice. Recommendations for each trait are not tied to a product catalog.
  • Built for tracking. Monthly averages, best score, before-and-after comparisons and streaks show whether your routine is working.
  • No account needed. Your history is saved on your phone, and photos are not stored on GoodSkin’s servers.
  • Always in your pocket. It is an app for iPhone and Android, and a check-in takes one selfie.

Privacy

GoodSkin needs no account, does not store your photos on its servers, and keeps your scan history on your phone.

Olay asks you to accept its Terms & Conditions before taking a photo. According to its FAQ, Olay deletes your selfie within 24 hours, or after 3 years if you are a registered Club Olay user. The tool’s footer links to P&G’s privacy policy and to a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which are worth a read before you upload a face photo.

Cost

GoodSkin is free to download. The full report, unlimited scans and progress tracking require GoodSkin Premium, an in-app subscription.

Olay Skin Advisor is free. The products it recommends are not. The real cost depends on how much of the routine you buy.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose GoodSkin if you want a wider analysis (acne, redness, oiliness, hydration and more), brand-neutral recommendations, and a way to track your skin regularly over months. For most people who want to understand their skin, it is the better choice.
  • Choose Olay Skin Advisor if you already like Olay and simply want a free skin age estimate and a ready-made Olay routine.
  • Use both if you want an Olay routine and an independent way to check whether it is working.

Frequently asked questions

Is Olay Skin Advisor free?

Yes. Olay describes Skin Advisor as a free tool on its website. You only pay if you decide to buy the Olay products it recommends.

How accurate is the Olay skin age test?

Olay calls its Skin Age Estimate a snapshot of how old your skin looks, and says it can vary with lighting, photo quality and day-to-day changes. Treat it as a rough guide and compare results taken in similar conditions rather than reading too much into one number.

Does Olay Skin Advisor only recommend Olay products?

Yes. Olay says the tool matches your concerns and preferences to the Olay products that fit best, such as whether you want SPF, retinol or fragrance-free options. GoodSkin's recommendations are not tied to any brand.

Can Olay Skin Advisor diagnose skin conditions?

No. Olay says Skin Advisor is a cosmetic tool and will not diagnose medical skin conditions. GoodSkin is also cosmetic and educational, so for a medical concern, see a board-certified dermatologist.
