Best skin analysis apps in 2026, compared
We compared 9 skin analysis apps and web tools on what they measure, tracking, privacy, and price. See why GoodSkin is our top pick and who each one fits.
Facts checked October 26, 2026
We make GoodSkin. Details about other apps come from their own sites and store listings, and we did not lab-test any app.
The short answer
One selfie in GoodSkin gives a Skin Score plus 14 named traits, each with a status and recommendations. A scan confidence rating flags bad photos, and monthly history shows what is changing, with no account needed. That makes it our top pick for analyzing and tracking your skin at home. For a mole that worries you, see a dermatologist or use SkinVision where it is offered.

Best for: Virtual makeup, hair try-on, and photo editing, with a chat-based skin check on the side

SkinVision
Best for: Checking one mole or spot for skin cancer risk, if you live outside the US and Canada
A regulated medical device with European CE marking (EU MDR Class IIa) that gives a risk indication for a single spot and lets you track spots on a body map. Not intended for use in the US or Canada, or by under-18s.
- 9Visit siteM
Miiskin
Best for: Seeing a board-certified dermatologist online and getting prescription treatment (US)
Started as a skin monitoring app and is now mainly an online dermatology service in the US. A dermatologist licensed in your state reviews your case, and the skin photo features are still in the app.
For most people, the best skin analysis app is GoodSkin, and it is our top pick for 2026. One selfie gives you a Skin Score out of 100 plus scores for 14 named traits, each with a status, a short explanation, and practical recommendations. A scan confidence rating flags bad photos, and the app tracks your scores month by month without an account. Brand web tools from L’Oréal Paris and Neutrogena are fine for a quick one-off check, product apps such as Skin Bliss help you shop, and a mole that worries you belongs with a dermatologist, not a face scan app.
Everything below is a feature comparison built from each app’s own store listing and website, and we note where a different kind of tool fits a different job.
How we compared these skin analysis apps
Most “best skincare apps” lists mix very different products: photo editors, ingredient scanners, brand quizzes, and regulated medical devices. To keep it fair, we looked at the same six things for every app:
- What it measures. Which skin traits or concerns it names, and whether you get a score.
- Tracking over time. Whether it keeps a scan history or lets you compare photos.
- Privacy model. Whether you need an account, and what the app says happens to your photos.
- Platforms. iPhone, Android, or a web tool in your browser.
- Pricing model. Free, subscription, or pay per check, as stated by the maker.
- Purpose. Cosmetic and educational, or medical.
We only included apps and web tools you can use today. We left out developer kits that brands buy to build their own scanners, because you cannot download them, and apps that are no longer available (see the note on TroveSkin below). Prices change. Check the store listing in your country before you pay.

The best skin analysis apps in 2026
GoodSkin: our top pick for skin analysis and tracking
GoodSkin is our AI skin scanner for iPhone and Android, and it is the app we recommend for most people who want to understand and track their skin at home. You take one selfie and get a Skin Score out of 100, scores for 14 traits (Skin Age, Acne, Wrinkles, Dark Spots, Pores, Redness, Pigmentation, Glow, Hydration, Oiliness, Face Shape, Bloat, Elasticity, and Texture), plus your skin type and skin tone. Each trait gets a status from Excellent to Needs Improvement, a short explanation, and practical recommendations. Every score comes with a plan.
Why it is our top pick:
- Depth. 14 named traits plus a Skin Score, covering acne, redness, oiliness, and hydration as well as signs of aging.
- A photo quality check. A scan confidence rating flags photos that are blurry, dark, or badly lit and tells you when to retake one.
- Tracking at the center. Scan history by month with your average and best score, before-and-after comparisons, daily streaks, and a daily skincare tip. With Premium, scans are unlimited.
- Privacy. No account, photos are not stored on GoodSkin’s servers, and your history stays on your phone.
- Brand-neutral advice. Recommendations are not tied to a product catalog. You can follow them with products you already own.
The app is free to download, and the full report, unlimited scans, and tracking need GoodSkin Premium. It is a cosmetic tool, not a medical device, and it does not diagnose conditions like rosacea or melasma. You can read more about how GoodSkin’s AI skin analysis works.
Best for: most people who want to analyze their skin and see whether their routine is working, privately.
YouCam Makeup
YouCam Makeup, from Perfect Corp, is first a beauty camera and photo editor: virtual makeup, hair try-on, retouching, and AI image tools. Skin analysis lives inside its chat-based Beauty Agent, which scores a selfie across categories such as hydration, smoothness, firmness, spots, and fine lines, then answers follow-up questions about products. Perfect Corp says the skin analysis is free; Premium unlocks extra looks and removes ads. The App Store label lists photos or videos and email address as data linked to you. Our GoodSkin vs YouCam Makeup comparison goes deeper.
Best for: people who mainly want makeup try-on and editing, with a quick skin check as a bonus.
Skin Bliss
Skin Bliss is a skincare routine app with a face scanner. The scan builds a skin profile (skin type, concerns, and routine goals), and most of the app is about products: barcode and ingredient scanning, a match score for each product, ingredient clash checks, a routine builder, an expiry tracker, a skin diary, and photo comparisons. It is free with in-app purchases, and Skin Bliss Pro unlocks unlimited scans, routine timelines, and photo comparisons. It uses an account, and its privacy policy says data is stored on cloud servers in the EU. See GoodSkin vs Skin Bliss for a side-by-side.
Best for: choosing products and building a routine that does not clash.
Skan
Skan combines a selfie scan with product matching. Its listing says the scan covers acne, redness, pores, pigmentation, wrinkles, eye bags, and more, and you can save scans to compare progress. The product finder and product scanner need Skan Premium. Skan’s listing states that it is not a medical device, and its App Store privacy label lists photos, name, and email address as data linked to you.
Best for: people who want one app that scans their face and suggests products to buy.
L’Oréal Paris Skin Genius
Skin Genius is a free web tool from L’Oréal Paris. You take a selfie, enter your age, skin type, and sensitivity, and it analyzes 8 attributes, mostly signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, pore quality, pigmentation, and radiance. It recommends a routine from L’Oréal Paris products, and the brand says it deletes your selfie after the analysis. There is no history to track.
Best for: a free, one-off look at aging signs.
Neutrogena Skin360
Skin360 is a web tool you open on your phone, with no app and no account. It scores 6 skin attributes that add up to an overall skin score, names your top concern, and suggests morning and evening products. Neutrogena says facial images are deleted as soon as the scan is processed, and results are emailed to you rather than saved.
Best for: a quick, account-free scan if you are happy with Neutrogena product picks.
Olay Skin Advisor
Olay Skin Advisor is a web tool on olay.com. Olay says it analyzes your skin using AI and builds a personalized routine from Olay products, and you can skip the analysis and pick a ready-made routine bundle instead. Its page does not list which traits it scores or what happens to your photo, so we could not compare it on those points.
Best for: Olay shoppers who want a routine chosen for them.
SkinVision
SkinVision is different from every other app here. It is a regulated medical device with European CE marking (EU MDR Class IIa) that photographs a single mole or skin spot and gives a risk indication for skin cancer, with dermatologists reviewing some cases, plus a body map to track spots. You can buy a single check or unlimited checks for 3 or 12 months, with no subscription. SkinVision does not give a diagnosis, is not for under-18s, and says its app is not intended for use in the US or Canada.
Best for: checking a specific spot between dermatologist visits, if you live where it is offered. GoodSkin does not check moles.
Miiskin
Miiskin started as a skin monitoring app. In the US it is now mainly an online dermatology service: you consult a board-certified dermatologist licensed in your state through the app and can get prescription treatment for concerns such as acne, rosacea, and melasma. Miiskin’s site lists consultations from $59 for new users and $39 for prescription renewals, and the skin photo features are still in the app.
Best for: when you need an actual dermatologist and a prescription, not a score.
What happened to TroveSkin?
TroveSkin, a skincare tracker from Trove Technologies, still shows up on older lists of skin scan apps. When we checked on October 26, 2026, it was no longer listed on the App Store or Google Play, and its website now redirects to an unrelated site. Its last App Store update we could find was version 7.1.9 in August 2023. If you used it for progress selfies, GoodSkin is the natural replacement, and our TroveSkin alternative page compares the two.
Cosmetic face scan apps vs medical skin checks
Most apps on this list are cosmetic. They read what a camera can see (pores, redness, lines, uneven tone) and turn it into scores and suggestions. That is useful for building habits and checking whether a routine is helping, but none of them can tell acne from rosacea, or a harmless mole from melanoma.
If you only want to know your skin type, you do not need an app at all. A short quiz gets you most of the way.
Free toolSkin type quizOily, dry, combination, normal, or sensitive in about a minute. How to get consistent results from any AI skin scanner
Every skin scanner app is sensitive to the photo you give it. A dim bathroom, a ring light, or yesterday’s foundation can move a score more than a month of serums. To make comparisons meaningful:
- Use the same light. Face a window in daylight, with no harsh light from above or behind you.
- Scan at the same time of day. Skin looks puffier in the morning and oilier by evening.
- Start with a clean, bare face. No makeup, tinted SPF, or fresh actives.
- Keep the same distance and angle. Hold the phone at eye level, about an arm’s length away.
- Judge trends, not single scans. Compare monthly averages after 4-8 weeks of a new routine, since most products need that long to show a visible change.
GoodSkin’s scan confidence rating helps here, because it tells you when a photo is too blurry, dark, or badly lit to trust. We go into the limits in more detail in how accurate AI skin analysis really is.
Which skin scanner app should you choose?
For most people, start with GoodSkin. If your goal is to know where your skin stands and whether your routine is working, it is the app built for that job: 14 trait scores with a plan for each, a scan confidence check, and monthly tracking, with no account and your history kept on your phone.
The other tools on this list fit narrower jobs:
- You mainly want help choosing products: Skin Bliss or Skan, alongside GoodSkin if you also want to measure results.
- You mostly want makeup try-on and photo edits: YouCam Makeup.
- You want one quick check with no install: L’Oréal Paris Skin Genius or Neutrogena Skin360.
- You are worried about a mole: a dermatologist, or SkinVision where it is available.
- You need prescription treatment in the US: Miiskin or an in-person dermatologist.
Whatever you pick, treat the score as a guide, not a diagnosis, and see a dermatologist for anything that hurts, spreads, or does not settle.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best skin analysis app?
For most people who want to analyze and track their skin at home, our pick is GoodSkin. One selfie gives a Skin Score plus 14 named traits with a status and recommendations for each, it flags badly lit photos, and it tracks your results month by month without an account.
Is there a free skin analysis app?
L'Oréal Paris Skin Genius is free and runs in your browser, and Perfect Corp says the AI skin analysis inside YouCam Makeup is free. GoodSkin is free to download, with the full report, unlimited scans, and progress tracking in GoodSkin Premium.
Can a face scan app detect skin cancer?
Cosmetic face scan apps, including GoodSkin, do not check for skin cancer. SkinVision is a CE-marked medical device that gives a risk indication for a single spot, but it does not diagnose and is not intended for the US or Canada. Any mole that is new, changing, bleeding, or itchy needs a dermatologist.
Do skin analysis apps keep your face photos?
It varies. GoodSkin does not store photos on its servers, and L'Oréal Paris and Neutrogena say their web tools delete your selfie after the analysis. Some apps list photos as data linked to you in their App Store privacy label, so check the label before you scan.
What is the best skincare routine app?
If you mainly want to build a routine and check ingredient clashes, Skin Bliss is built for that. If you want to see whether your routine is actually working, GoodSkin measures 14 traits and tracks them month by month, so some people use both.
