Face symmetry test: how symmetrical is your face?

Upload a straight-on selfie. We find the line down the middle of your face, mirror every feature across it, and show you both halves doubled.

Mirror your face, feature by feature

We measure your eyes, brows, nose, mouth, cheeks, and jaw against their mirror image. It is geometry, not a rating of how you look.

How the face symmetry test works

A face model in your browser places points on your face, including the corners of your eyes and mouth, the arch of each brow, the edges of your nose, and the line of your jaw. We find the line that runs from the middle of your forehead down your nose, turn the photo so that line is straight, and mirror every point on one side across it.

Then we measure how far each mirrored point lands from its partner on the other side, as a share of your face width. Your symmetry percentage is 100 minus the average of those gaps. The feature notes tell you which side sits a little higher or reaches a little wider, as seen in the photo.

Why no face is perfectly symmetrical

Faces grow from two halves that never develop in perfect step, and life adds to the difference: the side you sleep on, the side you chew on, sun on the driver’s side, and an eyebrow you raise more than the other. Small differences are normal and are a big part of what makes your face recognizably yours. That is why the mirrored versions above look like someone related to you rather than you.

Is this an attractiveness test?

No. This tool measures symmetry and stops there. Research links symmetry with attractiveness only modestly, and a single number cannot capture how a face looks in motion, in person, or to the people who know you. If you want a rating anyway, the attractiveness test combines symmetry with facial thirds and golden ratio proportions into a score out of 10, and the golden ratio face calculator shows every ratio it measures. The GoodSkin app itself reads your skin, never your looks.

How to take a photo for an accurate result

  1. Look straight at the lens with the phone at eye level. A turned head is the biggest source of error.
  2. Keep a relaxed, neutral face. A smile or a raised brow is rarely even on both sides.
  3. Use soft, even light from in front of you, so shadows don’t hide the edge of your jaw.
  4. Pull your hair back from your forehead and jaw.
  5. Check the mirror setting. Front cameras often flip the photo, which swaps left and right in the notes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good face symmetry score?

Most straight-on photos measure between about 97% and 99.5% here, because everyday asymmetry is a matter of millimeters. There is no pass mark: a lower number usually means a tilted head, uneven light, or an expression, not a less attractive face.

Do symmetrical faces look more attractive?

Studies find a small link at best, and it shrinks when other things are held equal. People also tend to prefer real faces over perfectly mirrored ones, which can look flat or uncanny. This test measures geometry and says nothing about how good you look.

Why does my mirrored face look so different?

Each half of your face has its own small quirks, and doubling one half doubles them too. The result looks like a relative of yours rather than you, which is a good reminder of how much natural asymmetry makes a face look like itself.

Can you make your face more symmetrical?

Small habits play a part: sleeping on one side, chewing on one side, and posture can all add to differences over time. Puffiness from salt or short sleep can also sit unevenly for a few hours. For skin that looks even, see the face bloat guide.
